RECERTIFICATION
ADVICE
Version 3.0
by
Rich Ostrin
As recertification and examination chairman, I want to give you some
information regarding important aspect of the two processes that will
likely affect you. |

Rich Ostrin |
Recertification:
After you receive initial professional certification such as CQE, CQA, CRE, CQM, or
CSQE with related variations, you start on a triennial (every 3 years)
recertification cycle which requires you to:
-
Maintain a journal (available on
the ASQ website) of recertification units,
-
Complete a recertification application
-
Pay the required fee of $30 for a
single and $50 for 2 or more recertification's at one time (a process called
synchronization).
-
Send me the check (check made payable to
ASQ
or charge card info), the application, and your journal to my home address as
outlined below. My goal is to turn
your recert applications in 2 days and be responsive to your calls and
e-mails.

While maintaining your journal you need only document 18 RUs but may claim more. On the
synchronization process, you may pull forward your other recertification's to
match your currently due recertification without having to make up for RUs that
you are lacking due to not having 3 years worth of employment RUs.
This makes synchronization a much easier process to qualify for and saves
you time and money and is a good thing to do. I see a lot more of them now.
For
CMI and
CQT, there is no recertification required. Remember to sign
your application, enclose payment (check made payable to ASQ or charge card
info) and mail it to me. I then review, approve, and send the
recertification application only with payment to Milwaukee where they
process your application and print your new certificate.
There is a 6 month grace period past your expiration
date to submit your application. If you have any questions about
recertification, please ask; I'm always happy to answer them in a timely
manner.
Earning Re-certification Credits (RU's):
There are several ways to earn
re-certification credits as follows:
-
Attend meetings =
0.3 RUs for every meeting attended. This is often considered the
easiest way to acquire RUs. Meeting credit can be for any professional
society meeting.
-
Attend a class = 0.1
RUs for every hour of class attended. See
our education page for more information regarding classes taught by our
section.
-
Serve on the board = 1.5 RUs /
year for committees.
Contact our chair for more information regarding which committees are
available to serve on.
-
Teach or lecture for the section
= 0.15 RUs per hour taught. This includes all
types of teaching including lectures during monthly membership meetings.
Teaching credit is also available for courses taught in your company, at a
university or college, etc.
-
Write an article = 1.0 RU for
article published. See our
author guidelines page.
-
Write a book = 3.0 RUs for each
book published. See our
author guidelines page.

soon.

Senior & Fellow Memberships:
For those members who wish to upgrade to Senior Membership and have been ASQ
members for at least 1 year and have 10 years of work experience (2 of which
are in Quality Assurance), you may upgrade to senior membership by
completing a senior membership application with experience and references
and mailing it to my home at the address above.
Fellow membership requirements are
much more difficult and need to be submitted by someone other than yourself.
See more information on the form itself.
Application forms are available from the ASQ website or from National @ 800-248-1946.
Links to these
application forms are also available near the top of
our membership page. The process is fairly straight forward and easy to do.
Contact me if you have any questions.
See my contact information above.
