MESSAGE FROM THE WEB LIAISON

"Quality Sells"

We have recently heard that General Motors and Ford have announced plans to close several assembly plants in the US.  Both companies have given the same reason for doing this – lower sales.

Toyota on the other hand continues to hire American workers for its assembly plants.

The slogan “Made in the USA” has had a positive impact on Ford and GM sales.  It is now having a positive impact on Toyota sales.

The lesson here is that :

  1. All other things being equal, a reputation for building quality into products and services has a positive effect on sales.

  2. Negative effects , like positive effects take time to effect sales.

The irony is that GM, Ford and Chrysler are producing much better quality than they used to be.  Ford has adopted a Six Sigma Quality program but they now need to share the market with foreign competitors who assemble and service their products in the US.  However, we all remember the Ford Ranger / Firestone tire issue a few years back.  One tends to believe that risk assessment during the design phase should have been more complete.

Risk assessment is the topic of this month's meeting and our speaker is none other than Keith Boyle who is a very talented speaker.  This should be a fantastic talk to round out the year on a great footing.  See more information below or sign up now on our meetings page.

Abstract

Whether you are developing a new process, implementing ISO-9001 or managing a Lean Six-Sigma roll-out in your organization, unmanaged risk can make or break the success of your critical project execution. Learn how to design a plan to identify potential failures and manage risk intelligently.

Keith Boyle will provide an examination of how to establish risk-level and allocate risk-impact, and realize both predictive and preventive methodologies during new product designs, process developments and project implementations.
