MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

"Special Meeting"

The following message was sent out as a separate email to our members.

+~+~+

The ASQ San Diego Board of Directors is delighted to extend an invitation to all ASQ members, their peers, and associates to attend a special section meeting on Tuesday July 10th. This meeting will consist of a panel of experts answering your questions on the critical topic of “Managing Change and Improvement”.

Those of you familiar with panel discussions already know what a spectacular opportunity this is. The panelists will be there to answer your questions about your issues in your workplace. This is members helping members, and your participation is essential to make the most of this opportunity. Please go to http://www.asqsandiego.org/meetings.htm for more information.

DO NOT MISS this opportunity to receive personal consulting for the price of an ASQ Meeting! Bring your coworkers, your boss, and your CEO! Get your specific questions in the hands of the experts.

There are two ways to get your questions in front of the panel:

·                 You can submit questions now at board@asqsandiego.org. Look at the questions already submitted at http://www.asqsandiego.org/meetings.htm. This gives us a better opportunity to prepare a thoughtful answer.

·                 Questions can also be submitted (anonymously or not) on 3x5 cards on the night of the event. Attendees will simply fill them out; we will collect them, and submit them to our moderator, Ric Van Der Linden (President of Progressivedge.com). He will work them into the discussion.

See you next week,

Abstract

Quality professionals spend a lot of time learning quality and statistical tools, methods, and models in an effort to provide clarity, direction, and management for processes that support products and services that we provide.  However, we often find that even the best of these tools methods and models aren't enough to convince everyone to line up and keep from blocking progress.

This raises a lot of questions that require group oriented discussion in order to answer such as:

  1. why do some people resist obvious improvement?

  2. how many people resist change?

  3. are there case studies of how companies handled change well or not well?

  4. what roles are important in creating or controlling change?

  5. name some change management related tools

  6. name / explain some change management methods

  7. do you know of any change management methodologies?

  8. do you have any do/don't tips or personal techniques that can help facilitate change?

  9. what can the individual do to facilitate change?

  10. why doesn't ASQ make change management part of certifications?

  11. what's written in the literature about this subject?

  12. are there consultants that specialize in CM?

  13. how could a consultant help with a change effort?

  14. what models exist to help with change?

  15. how can models help with change?

  16. how does change management relate to quality?

  17. how do methodologies help with the CM effort?

  18. how can statistics be applied to change management?

  19. what is the biggest barrier to change?

  20. how do you get people to change?

  21. what makes a good change initiative?

  22. your question here

  23. your case study for discussion here:

    • what horrible problems do you have that we can talk about?

    • what success story can you share with us?

    • etc.

Bring your stories, questions, tool ideas, problems case studies, etc. and we'll discuss them.   Question cards will be distributed prior to the start of the meeting (i.e. describe an organizational success stories and what made it a success, what are your biggest challenges, etc.).

Each panel speaker will present a 5min talk for the first half of the hour.  Remaining time will be spent in open discussion with prepared questions to be used after questions from the audience using the following outline:

  • Meeting Welcome (Doug)

    • Purpose of Meeting

    • Format and Conduct of Meeting

    • Introduce Panelists and People Helping Out

  • Introduction to the Panel Discussion (Ric)
