MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR  

 

"400th Job Post; Free Dinner"

Our board is offering a free dinner to all members that RSVP by Wednesday before our next dinner meeting.  Better hurry.  We are investigating the potential of improving meeting attendance, while lower our costs due to paying for meals based on guessing actual attendance.  RSVP and see more information below and on our meetings page at http://www.asqsandiego.org/meetings.htm.

CSQE Course Kickoff

UCSD Extension Open House

 

UCSD Extension is having an Open House on 9/7/ from 5-7:30PM at the Institute of the Americas on the main UCSD campus. In addition to having tables for various academic areas set up, there is also plans to have tables set up for the Associations we work with (including ASQ) so they can reach our student audience as well.  We are looking for a volunteer to man the booth at the event.  Contact me if you are willing and able to participate. More On The Contest Announcement

 

The last two months we've announced the following contest but we haven't received any replies ... you've got a good chance of winning.  Here is the information:

 

The dates for the course in San Diego are September 13 and 14. The location venue has not been finalized yet, but when it is we will post a brochure link on the course calendar located at www.asq.org/cs/courses.  A description for the Customer-Focused Satisfaction Course may be found at: http://www.asq.org/cs/courses/satisfaction.html.
 

Here's what we posted in the last newsletter:

 

1)      A contest is being held to award a 2-Day, Customer-Focused Satisfaction Measurement course from ASQ’s Customer-Supplier Division. See details of the course offering on the internet at http://www.asq.org/cs/courses/satisfaction.html. The course is tentatively set for September and a firm date will be announced soon on the ASQ website.

2)      The contest is open to all ASQ San Diego members and non-members alike.

3)      A contest entry will consist of a written report on the following quality topic: Describe the greatest impact that quality has had on your organization.

4)      Entries not meeting the following contest criteria will not be considered.

a)      Entry will consist of one to five, 8.5” x 11” pages. A cover page may be included and will not count in the total page count. The cover page should contain the author’s name and title, company, contact information, and names of two company representatives.

b)      Validity of a contest entry requires verification by submitting the names of two company representatives who can verify the entry’s contents.

c)      Entries must be submitted in MicroSoft Office format (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), or in a PDF file. Topic must be backed up by quantifiable, objective data. Some suggestions for entry content are as follows.

i)        Amount of dollars saved.

ii)       Reduction in the amount of scrap and/or product returns.

iii)     Improvement of a process(es) and by how much.

iv)     Amount of productivity increase(s).

v)      Level of customer satisfaction achieved.

d)      Entry should be concisely written and grammatically correct.

e)      Submissions must not have been previously published in whole or in part outside of the company / organization.

f)        Entries are to be emailed to ASQContest@IQS-TQM.Com by July 21st, 2006.

5)      ASQ San Diego board members are exempt from the contest and will judge the entries. Any questions about the contest can be directed to ASQContest@IQS-TQM.Com.

6)      Contest winner for the ASQ Customer-Supplier Division course will be announced at the August ASQ section meeting.

7)      Best three entries (including the winner) will be posted on the ASQ website.

"Developing Dynamic Presentations: Skills and Visual Goal Setting"

Abstract

This interactive meeting from a master presenter will guarantee that everyone at all levels and types of skill sets will learn something.  Bob will use stories, skits, and props to give special focus on the following:

  • Building presentation skills

  • Visual goal setting

  • Getting your point across

  • Stretching the comfort zone

  • Training the butterflies

 

Speaker Biography


Bob Freel has been a Toastmaster for 9 years, During that time he has earned his Distinguished Toastmaster (the highest individual recognition in Toastmasters). In addition he’s served in several leadership positions, and in 2004 was recognized as the Inland Empire’s Area Governor of the Year. Bob has won many speaking competitions for (Humorous, Evaluation, Impromptu, and Motivational speaking).


He has given presentations to the Ontario Chapter of the American Management Association, Home Schooling of Corona, AVID, Several Divisions of Rockwell, McDonald Douglas, Newport Corporation, and Fairchild Fasteners. He has made several historical presentations to educational and community groups in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Bob is a mentor at the California Institute for Women’s (prison) where he teaches Leadership, and Public Speaking Skills.

He graduated from California State University Long Beach with a Bachelors Degree in Labor Relations and a minor in Operations Management. He has over 20 years of experience in Materials/Operations Management. His industrial experience includes systems implementations and upgrades for Townsend Textron, Rockwell International, McDonnell Douglas, Cerplex Corp, Newport Corporation, Product Research, Brown Jordan and Safariland.
In addition, he has developed and taught APICS Certification Courses for several of the Companies named above.

He served 10 years in the U.S.ARMY, where, he gave presentations on Combat Logistics, Repair Parts Supply, Winter Driving Skills, and Transportation Techniques.
